Frequently Asked Questions

Below are our FAQs, please dont hesitate to reach out to cusefigureskating@gmail.com with any additional questions or clarifications.

Skaters compete in Short Program, Freeskate, Solo Pattern Dance, and Solo Free Dance events, in addition to Team Maneuvers, to earn points for their schools. Events range from High Beginner to Senior levels. Skaters will be members of the Syracuse University Figure Skating Club, under the US Figure Skating Association. 


No, you don't have to attend competitions; you can come to work on moves in the field, dance, solo free dance, freestyle, or recreationally skate.


Practices will be offered on Mondays & Wednesdays from 8:00 pm-9:30 pm at the Tennity Ice Pavilion. Practices are flexible, and we will rarely mandate practices; however, if you are competing, we ask that you attend the two practices prior to the competition. We also ask that skaters attend at least one practice each week. Team carpools will be provided to all practices.


Every season, we plan to attend all three Northeast Conference qualifying competitions. These competitions are held throughout the year at various colleges in our conference. With the goal of qualifying for the Intercollegiate National Championship held in April.


No! We accept skaters of all levels, from beginners to experienced skaters. We have a coach on staff who offers lessons upon request


Due to limited funding from the school, we charge a fee to be part of our club. The dues vary depending on whether the member is on the competition team or the non-competition team. We are very flexible about payment deadlines and encourage you to speak with a member of our executive board if you have any questions.


Yes, all skaters must be members of the U.S Figure Skating Association. We recommend all skaters purchase the collegiate membership, which lasts all four years of undergraduate and is a one-time payment of $120. If you are not sure if you're a member or need help purchasing a membership, please email cusefigureskating@gmail.com for assistance.


Yes, all students currently enrolled online or in person at Syracuse University and SUNY ESF are eligible to join our club.
